About the Overtime Pay Calculator

The overtime pay calculator estimates gross pay from regular hours, overtime hours, an hourly wage, and the applicable overtime multiplier. Regular pay equals regular hours multiplied by the base hourly rate. Overtime pay equals overtime hours multiplied by the base rate and then by the overtime multiplier. The two amounts are added to show an estimated gross total before deductions. Enter only the hours that belong to each pay category for the selected pay period. In many workplaces time and a half is expressed as 1.5, while double time is expressed as 2.0. The proper threshold, eligible hours, and rate can vary under local wage laws, collective agreements, employment contracts, job classification, and employer policy. Some rules calculate overtime from a regular rate that includes certain bonuses or differentials, rather than simply the base wage. The estimate is useful for checking a timesheet, budgeting a project, or comparing expected earnings. It does not deduct income tax, payroll tax, benefit premiums, retirement contributions, garnishments, or other withholding. It also does not automatically handle daily overtime, consecutive-day rules, shift premiums, holiday rules, blended rates, tipped wages, or salaried nonexempt calculations. Add such items separately only when you understand how they apply. For accurate pay, keep records of hours, pay stubs, and the governing agreement. Confirm whether breaks are paid, whether travel time counts, and whether premiums stack or replace one another. Round hours and rates according to payroll practice, not merely display formatting. If the result differs from a pay statement, compare the pay-period dates and every earning code before drawing conclusions. The overtime pay calculator is an educational estimate and not legal, payroll, or tax advice. Contact a payroll administrator, labor authority, or qualified adviser for questions about overtime entitlement or a disputed wage calculation. Confirm applicable wage-law thresholds with an authorized local payroll resource.
